Owned and managed by the traditional owners of the clan estates it visits, this is an exceptional Aboriginal cultural and heritage day tour into Arnhem Land and Northern Kakadu with an experienced guide. Journey across the East Alligator River into Arnhem Land, one of Australia’s most remote and least traversed regions. Visit places inaccessible to most, including ancient rock art sites in their natural state. Gain knowledge of traditional land ownership, bush skills, hunting, food gathering and bush tucker preparation. Meet Aboriginal artists at Injalak Arts and Crafts Centre in Oenpelli. There is time to watch Aboriginal people painting and to see the women weaving pandanus leaf baskets. With special permission from the Manilagarr people, travel into the Mikkinj valley with its stunning scenery of billabongs, wildlife and towering escarpment. Enjoy lunch beside the Inkiyu Billabong. Travelling in comfortable 4WDs with forward facing seats, you will experience the region’s world-famous landscapes consisting of sandstone escarpment outcrops, forests, floodplains and billabongs with birdlife. Arnhem Land permits, refreshments and lunch are included.
Note: Injalak Arts & Crafts Centre is regularly not available on Sundays and public holidays and may be closed for cultural reasons. As an alternative the tour will visit the exclusive and spectacular Cannon Hill & Hawk Dreaming region of Northern Kakadu National Park.
